Concert Description

The Gustav Mahler Orchestra of Colombo returns to the Nawarangahala, for it's 2019/20 Season Opening Concert with Chief Conductor Srimal Weerasinghe and a number of acclaimed soloists with yet another groundbreaking programme.

The highlight of the concert will be the Sri Lankan Première of Gustav Mahler's Rückert Lieder with Rachel Halliday as the Soloist. The Concert will also feature Beethoven's Dramatic Leonore Overture No.3 and the World Première Sachiththa Fernando's Fanfare for the Gustav Mahler Society of Colombo and The Sri Lankan Première of Lalanath De Silva's Elegy in Memory of 2019 Easter Sunday Victims. Harsha Makalande's exciting Concert piece for Piano, Sri Lankan Drums and Orchestra, Svarasanga Vannama will be performed in Sri Lanka after more than a decade with the Composer himself as the piano soloist and Ravibandu Vidyapathi, Jithendra Vidyapathi on Sri Lankan Drums.
